Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our HR systems and processes, ensuring they are efficient, user-focused, and aligned with the Trust’s values and workforce ambitions. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, operational teams, and external partners to deliver innovative solutions that enhance the employee experience and support the Trust’s long-term people strategy.

The postholder will be the lead for People Systems and ESR / Establishment Control and be an expert on workforce intelligence within the Trust. This is a leadership role that drives forward the continuous improvement of the service whose responsibilities include:
- ESR System Lead
- People Hub System Lead
- Support the development of a People Systems Strategy
- Responsible for communications and engagement lead for People Systems Builds
- Manages the key relationships with defined senior stakeholders in Finance, DT&I and Procurement
- Lead on process improvement projects
- Develops and maintains People Systems Architecture Map and acts as the lead contact for People System information flows (inbound and outbound from ESR)
- Support Project Boards for any People Systems implementations
Working for our organisation
The People Directorate consists of three functional areas working collaboratively in an agile and customer focussed way supporting the organisations people operational and strategic priorities. The functions include
People Operations a central function comprising of Payroll and Pensions, People Advisory Services, Temporary Staffing and Recruitment.
People Communities of Expertise a central expert resource supporting clinical and corporate groups with workforce planning, recruitment/attraction strategy/branding, workforce analytics/trends, leadership/OD, talent management, workforce relations, change management, EDI, learning and talent development, OH, health and wellbeing, psychology, programme management, pay, policy and clinical education. People managers are designated to clinical groups in Workforce Relations, Recruitment, L&D, EDI and Medical HR.
People Embedded Teams comprising of senior workforce leaders (CG People Directors and HR Business Partners) reporting to Clinical Group Chief Executives who set local strategic priorities within Clinical Groups and are an integral part of the development of Trust People Strategies. They work with the hybrid people managers and communities of expertise to deliver local priorities and drive business success.
