Trac proudly powers the recruitment for

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust

About

The Queen Elizabeth Teaching Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust (The QEH) is a district general hospital employing over 4,000 staff and volunteers. We serve a population of approximately 375,000 and provide care for patients from West and North Norfolk, Breckland, Cambridgeshire, and South Lincolnshire. We are united in our commitment to delivering high-quality, safe and compassionate care.

In July 2025, The QEH achieved a significant milestone by successfully completing the rigorous quality assurance process to become a designated Teaching Hospital. This formal recognition reflects our longstanding commitment to education, research, and the development of future healthcare professionals. Teaching Hospital status enhances our ability to attract and retain top talent, deepen academic partnerships, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across all services.

Authorised as a Foundation Trust in 2011, The QEH has approximately 500 inpatient beds across 22 wards. In 2024/25, we cared for more than 94,000 people in our Emergency Department, performed 25,400 day case procedures, and delivered more than 1,700 babies. We also treated more than 31,900 elective and non-elective inpatients.

We are a research active organisation and play a key role in clinical innovation. Last year we recruited more than 1,800 participants to National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio studies.

Collaboration is a central element of our improvement journey. Over the past year, we have worked closely with Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) and James Paget University Hospitals (JPUH) to develop a group model for service delivery. In March 2025, the full case for establishing the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group was published. This new structure signals a transformative phase for The QEH, grounded in shared ambition, innovation and excellence.

Over the past three years, the Trust has undergone significant improvement. We are now rated ‘Good’ by the CQC in three domains – Caring, Well-Led and Effective – while our overall rating remains ‘Requires Improvement’. This progress provides a strong foundation as we strive toward becoming an ‘Outstanding’ Trust.

Our Maternity Services have also been rated ‘Good’ by the CQC. Inspectors recognised the considerable changes made, highlighting improvements in staff culture, communication, and leadership.

In May 2023, The QEH was named as part of the government’s New Hospital Programme (NHP). This recognition marked a historic milestone, validating the urgent need for modern facilities in King’s Lynn. In January 2025, the government confirmed the replacement of RAAC-constructed hospitals as a national priority. As we move forward, we remain committed to realising the New QEH – an investment that will deliver world-class healthcare for our communities long into the future.

As we serve patients on the borders of Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire, we are commissioned by clinical commissioning groups from these three counties to provide acute hospital services. Our lead commissioner is NHS West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group.
