Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust has a strong haematology service under the umbrella of the being one of the largest health care providers in London. This is a post for a locum consultant haematologist with a role:
· To support outpatient lymphoma services,
· To increase capacity in our 2 week wait referral service,
To support the inpatient Haemato-oncology service by participating in the ward attending rota and out of hours rota,
· To ensure joint leadership and supervision of the departments morphology reporting service ,
· To support the inpatient Haemato-oncology service by participating in the ward attending rota and out of hours rota,

The post holder will be a member of the haemato-oncology team, this is a new post to provide additional support within the Lymphoma team which has seen significantly increased activity in the last few years including using bi-specific therapies and early phase clinical trials. The post holder will support and lead the the 2 week wait / Cancer pathway patients / clinics allowing an increase in clinic capacity.
The post holder will participate in rotational ward attending cover to manage haemato-oncology inpatients on a 1:12 basis and support the haemato-oncology on-call service also on a 1:12 basis. (It is likely that the haem-oncology attending rota will change over the next year to enable 7 day working and the job plan will change accordingly). The post holder will actively participate in trainee teaching and clinical supervision as expected in a large Tertiary teaching Hospital.
The post holder will support morphology report of bone marrow and blood films.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Provide High Quality Care to Patients
- The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice
- To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
- To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.
- To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
Research, Teaching and Training
- Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust’s translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
- To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.
- To act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training post.
Performance Management
- To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
- Clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing cancelled operations and DNA rates.
- Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates.
Financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided

Professional Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
- Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC/ GDC Specialist Register in haematology by date of interview.
