As a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team you will provide support and expert advice to the organization on infection prevention and control practices and policies. Post holders will work across all areas of the organization, including both community and acute settings.
The post holder will be responsible for a range of activities including education and training, audit, surveillance, management of outbreaks and alert organisms. Successful candidates will be encouraged to take part in and develop infection prevention and control initiatives and projects, which feed into the Trust’s Harm Free Care agenda to ensure promote the safety our patients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, ambitious and engaging registered children's or adult nurse to undertake the role of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Nurse, working in both acute and community settings. This innovative role allows the successful candidate to use their clinical knowledge and develop their IPC skills, whilst working in partnership with the clinical teams to make a real difference in patient outcomes, promoting patient safety and the delivery of safe care to assist in the reduction of health care associated infections.
Role responsibilities:
* Develop advanced knowledge and skills within IPC
* Provide support and specialist advise to a range of healthcare professionals
* Manage IPC issues in a defined patient caseload, liaising where appropriate, with other members of the IPC Team
* Undertake clinical audit in IPC
* Support the development of nursing practice within IPC
* Provide specialist education and training
Personal specification:
* Current NMC registration
* Meets NMC mentorship requirements
* Full driving licence and access to vehicle to meet travel requirements is essential
* IT skills essential

- The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust define a Infection Prevention and Control Nurse as a qualified nurse where the primary purpose of role is to provide guidance and support based on advanced level knowledge to patients, carers and health professionals
- To support the Matron Infection Prevention & Control in the provision of Infection Prevention & Control Services throughout the Trust. As a member of the Infection Prevention & Control Team assist in the development of a quality, proactive, evidence based Infection Prevention & Control service
- Within the sphere of Infection Prevention & Control the post holder will:

- Contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients
