This exciting new role is joint between UCLH and the National Radiotherapy Trials Quality Assurance (RTTQA) Group to provide senior dosimetry support for radiotherapy research and technical developments in dosimetry projects across the photon and proton departments and to provide radiographer support for clinical trials QA at RTTQA. 

The postholder will be the lead radiographer on at least one of the trials within the national RTTQA Group portfolio and will be expected to design and develop the QA programme for that trial.  They will play a key role in developing the QA for new trials at UCLH from inception to delivery. The postholder will also contribute to research and development projects across trials at UCLH and the national portfolio within RTTQA.

Applicants should have HCPC state-registration or be eligible and have completed the BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification.  Applicants should also have clinical experience in planning, dosimetry and research activities

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification.
  • Health Profession Council (HPC) registration as a therapy radiographer.
  • MSc or Master’s level equivalent qualification.
  • Work towards and complete a PhD within their role
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience in planning, dosimetry and research activities
  • Participation in audit/clinical governance.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant postgraduate experience with specialist training and knowledge and significant experience as a band 7 radiographer.
  • Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of radiotherapy techniques.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Specialist knowledge of research techniques, analysis and use of information
Desirable criteria
  • Track-record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

Skills and Abilities

  • Personal Qualities Enthusiastic, professional, reliable, versatile, committed, and caring.
  • Physical The majority of the shift necessitates standing, walking, manoeuvring and positioning: patients, trolleys, wheelchairs, beds and bulky, heavy accessory equipment e.g. lead blocks. This often requires transferring loads in suboptimal conditions e.g. extended height. This demands a high level of fitness and health.
  • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for millimetre precision when tattooing and positioning patients.
  • Responsible for maintaining their own safety and that of their colleagues and patients in respect of manual handling, reporting any incidents appropriately.
  • Is responsible for ensuring the team is working within health and safety and infection control guidelines
  • Work respectfully and responsibly with ionising radiation and hazardous substances (e.g. chemotherapy drugs), making certain that all team members adhere to local rules and national/international regulations.
