Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife who wishes to further develop and broaden their knowledge and skills. You will enjoy providing woman centred care as a vital part of a multidisciplinary team.
The purpose of this role is to lead the Infectious Diseases Screening pathway and to play a key role in the development of the Screening Services.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Screening coordinator in delivering the National Infectious Diseases Screening programme across maternity. The role requires extensive knowledge of all antenatal screening programmes with special knowledge on Hepatitis B, HIV and Syphilis in pregnancy.
The infectious diseases screening midwife needs to have the ability to educate and asses others and the ability to initiate change. They need to be an expert in handling complex information and data. The post holder will have to be proficient in managing data and spreadsheets and will be computer literate.

To be responsible for the provision of high quality screening in the maternity service for the Trust, in line with the national and Trust standards.
To lead on the management of the day to day running the infectious diseases screening programme ensuring that women and families receive care in a timely manner.
To work with the Screening Co-ordinator to continually monitor the screening pathway.
To identify areas for improvement and to take a lead role in designing, implementing and supporting new and existing initiatives e.g. education groups, new clinics, etc…
To be a role model in the provision of antenatal screening.
To work with a MDT running a weekly clinic at Guy’s hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will:
- Work in accordance with the NMC rules and code of conduct for midwives.
- Maintain and develop their professional knowledge and competence in accordance within the NMC recommendations.
- Work with the Trust policies and protocols and enable all members of the practice to carry out care within these guidelines.
- Maintain good standards of care within their designated practice and assist in the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care.
- Maintain efficient and effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups and staff working within the Trust.
- Utilise the full skills of a midwife (both integral and extended) in the provision of care to women and their families.
