About
We provide a full range of acute clinical services from Northampton General Hospital and Danetre Hospital in Daventry. We are a designated cancer centre and have recently invested in a number of additional specialist services, including in-patient renal services and interventional cardiology. All elective inpatients and emergency admissions are screened for MRSA. As part of our work to improve clinical outcomes we are taking part in a national patient safety programme and have invested in systems to capture patients views on the service we provide. We understand that sometimes a small change can make a big difference for patients.

You will support the Head of Nursing Family Health in strategic and operational decision-making, working collaboratively across UHN. Innovation and transformation will be key to this role, as you embed best practice and improve patient pathways. As a visible and supportive leader, you will develop and empower teams to excel in emergency care delivery.
Managerially accountable to the Head of Nursing and Professionally accountable to the Chief Nurse.
The post holder will have operational responsibility for ensuring the delivery of clinical quality standards, patient safety, and the overall patient experience in the Division, providing professional leadership, advice, and support for the Division to ensure that there is a consistency of practice high standards of care with a strong patient safety focus.
Working with a vision of delivering the UHN Values, the Deputy Head of nursing will support the Head of Nursing and the Division Triumvirate to provide professional leadership management to the Nursing service for the Division.

Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills are essential, along with a commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and staff development. Support the Head of Nursing to deliver a safe sustainable affordable Nursing workforce across the Division.
Working alongside the Head of Nursing the Deputy Head of Nursing will be responsible for the care and professional practice delivered within a significantly large Division. This would equate to a nursing (registered and unregistered) workforce of more than 550 funded whole time equivalent staff and could cover more than one hospital site.
However, the area of responsibility may be smaller in size and volume if there is a requirement for large scale change of service or that the complexities of the service are significant. Complexities of the service may come from the national profile that the specialty attracts or the consistent need to engage and work with stakeholders/agencies outside of the organisation.

The Deputy Head of Nursing will deputise for the Head of Nursing on an as required basis The Deputy Head of Nursing will support the delivery of safe, clinically and cost effective and compassionate nursing care within the Division and provides assurance evidence to the Head of Nursing regarding compliance against all appropriate professional, organisational and national compliance standards.
The Deputy Head of Nursing will support decision making where practice or service delivery issues cross Matron specialty or when cross specialty leadership is required.
The Deputy Head of Nursing will establish and foster an effective working relationship with the Division Triumvirate to lead improvements in nursing care, service delivery and the achievement of organisational priorities within the Division.
The Deputy Head of Nursing role will support the Head of nursing to lead the development of nursing policy and processes to maximise opportunities through co-design, introduction of new care models and the empowerment of service users and carers.
Act as Trust-wide representative for nursing and as an ambassador of UHN as appropriate.
Utilise all forms of communication including verbal, written, electronic, e-mail, formal and informal meetings and ensure effective communication of local Trust and National information or guidance to all nurses interpreting new information in ways that can be implemented into clinical practice.
Communicate highly complex information to Executives and the Board.
Present all types of information, including highly complex service information, to large groups which will involve high degrees of tact and diplomacy and where barriers to understanding occur.
Maintain and handle highly confidential patient and staff information, record keeping, creating and maintaining effective storage system of staff records
