Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent, 37.5hrs per week Support Accountant within the Financial Management Team in Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
We are seeking a Band 5 who is wanting to continue their financial journey or a Band 4 who is keen to start their journey. The post holder will be part of the Community Services Business Unit and will be expected to help the services meet all their financial requirements.
The Support Accountant will hold regular reviews with their peers and specialist colleagues to support intelligence gathering and resolve any queries.
The key skills required for the role are for processing & analysing data predominantly using Microsoft Office applications, and interrogating all of the various sub-systems of the ledger.
The Support Accountant role requires a proven working knowledge of all accounting principles involved. The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and have experience completing month end activities.
The Support Accountant is expected to take an active interest in the development of his/her skills, experience and future career. Support will be giving to ensure development needs are met.

The post holder will work within the Financial Management Team for Community Services. Working with the BU Accountant and Directorate Accountant to deliver financial support and understanding to the Services Managers and Leads within the Business Unit The post holder will assist with the financial position for the Business Unit.

- Producing budget statements from the ledger
- Investigating variances & making any necessary adjustments
- Implementing adjustments to income & expenditure for forecast and budget setting
- Validation of new spend & involvement in business cases

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To support the Business Unit Accountant / Directorate Accountant in providing a high-quality financial management accounting service
- To assist in the supervision the Accountancy Assistant and undertake specific projects as defined by the Business Unit Accountant / Directorate Accountant.
- To organise, co-ordinate, input and manipulate data within the computerised accounting system.
- To produce monthly financial management budget reports for managers within strict financial timescales, together with supporting information, and analyse and report on reasons for expenditure varying from budget.
- To analyse complex financial trends and compile forecasts of income and expenditure.
- To investigate queries and provide advice, support and training to Directorate Managers.
