Job overview
The Rheumatology Day Case Unit provides a specialised service in the delivery of treatment and care for patients with inflammatory arthritis, spondylarthritis, connective tissue disease, vasculitis and metabolic bone disease within the North East region
The role of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse is a new role, recognising the changing and developing nature of this service and its nursing team. This unit is now predominantly nurse-led in the delivery of care and requires dedicated senior leadership, to guide and manage the team and ensure safety and quality of this service.
This role will work extremely closely with the B7 Sister / Charge Nurse in the Musculoskeletal OPD and will be required to support and cross cover in times of absence or unavailability.

As the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse on this day case unit, the post holder will be responsible for the nursing team and the safe delivery of care in this area.
The post holder will ensure that safe staffing levels are in place to provide care and delivery of this specialist service. They will provide senior leadership and management in this area, supporting staff and patients to have the best experience possible whilst under our care.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical assessment, delivery of specialist care to patients in the unit and will oversee the safe delivery of care and the development of the service. They will act as a role model within the team, ensuring that quality of care and clinical standards are developed and maintained.
The post holder will be required to work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team and will contribute to the overall management of the Rheumatology service. The post holder will therefore be required to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support their role, working with others across the department, board and the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- The Senior Sister / Charge Nurse / Senior ODP has 24 hour accountability, including line managing, for their Theatre / Department. They must deliver quality care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to ensure the continuity of safe and effective care at all times
- Deputises for Matron as required / appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

- Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) / Registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Current NMC / HCPC registration
