Are you an experienced registered nurse looking to expand your role into research? If so, then this opportunity is for you.
A rare opportunity has arisen to apply for the position of Research Nurse working across the NIHR Newcastle Clinical Research Facility (NCRF) based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in the Directorate of Clinical Research.
The NCRF team specialise in the delivery of high-quality, cutting-edge experimental research and early phase clinical trials. In recent years the NCRF team have successfully recruited to gene therapy studies, rheumatology studies, respiratory studies, neurology studies and hepatology studies. Some of these studies have been First in Human.
Applications are welcomed from a registered adult nurse who has post registration experience working within a broad range of specialty areas and/or the clinical research delivery landscape.
The successful candidate will work as an integral member of the team to provide clinical care to research participants and their families. They will work as part of the clinical research delivery team to support the successful delivery of the study portfolio. This role requires an individual with excellent organisational and communication skills, effective time management, good IT skills, knowledge of data collection systems and the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is able to:
- Ensure the provision of safe and effective patient care.
- Support the team to ensure environmental standards and cleanliness are maintained in line with national and Trust Standards in the Clinical Research Facility.
- Support and contribute to the delivery of research participant care and nursing practice within the unit, contributing to Trust projects and wider research delivery projects where required.
- Support the development of junior staff and students ensuring appropriate supervision and assessment is available.
- Lead on clinical trials whilst maintaining a high standard of care and have the skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG – or be willing to obtain these skills.
- Be responsible for the safe custody of medication, including checking and administration.
- Ensure compliance with NUTH policies and procedures and adhere to the Clinical Governance framework and ICH Good Clinical Practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To participate in the creation and maintenance of a high-quality clinical research environment.
- To initiate and manage nursing activities related to academic studies and clinical trials, from initiation to termination, according to ICH good clinical practice guidelines.

- Academic attainment at diploma level and prepared to undertake degree level study
- Meets Nursing and Midwifery council requirements for mentorship
