Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity, which will involve setting up and establishing a new Physiotherapy service to patients with Intestinal Failure.
The postholder will work closely with the Intestinal Failure MDT, and therapy services colleagues to ensure best quality of care is delivered to this challenging patient group.
This post would be suitable for an existing Band 7 wanting to specialise in this clinical area, or a Band 6 who is keen to develop with experience in managing patients with complex rehabilitation needs, and a proven track record of delivering service improvement.

The postholder will be responsible for setting up and establishing the Physiotherapy service to a new 15 bedded Intestinal Failure unit at the Freeman Hospital. The specialist multi-disciplinary team will consist of AHP, nursing and medical colleagues who will work cohesively to coordinate care to this patient group.
As well as delivering optimal rehabilitation to the in-patient ward, there is likely to be an element of outpatient clinic work.
The postholder will be supported by Physiotherapy Operational Lead, as well as having peer support from the Physiotherapy Surgical Team Lead.
An AHP Band 4 Practitioner will work alongside the postholder, shared between Physiotherapy, OT and Dietetics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a highly complex patient group in specialty
- To provide outpatient physiotherapy support for these patients in clinics and on the day units as applicable to role
- To provide an advisory service to patients, their families, physiotherapists, consultants, nursing staff and other health care professionals in tertiary and secondary care, both locally and regionally.
- To develop and provide specialist education and training to nursing, medical and physiotherapy staff and other members of the MDT in order to optimise each patient’s outcome.

- Highly specialist knowledge of medical conditions relevant to the speciality and their impact on patient’s functional abilities
- Highly specialist knowledge of the physiotherapy process and its application with the client group in the speciality

- Knowledge of undertaking research projects
- Knowledge of current NHS initiatives e.g. National Service Frameworks, Improving Working Lives
SKILLS

- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to pass on skills and knowledge to others both formally and informally

EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Extensive post-grad experience including considerable experience as a senior physiotherapist within specialty (Master’s level equivalent)
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of teaching and delivering presentations
Desirable criteria
- Previous Band 7 experience
- Experience of carrying out audit projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
- State Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
- Evidence of CPD and relevant post-graduate courses to MSc level
Desirable criteria
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Involvement with the relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest Group e.g. APCP
