The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services for a catchment area of up over 1 million people. We are involved in the teaching and training of a wide range of health professionals, in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other local education providers.

** Fixed Term Contract/ Secondment Opportunity from September 2025- September 2027**
Are you an Adult Nurse who would like to become a midwife? Do you have at least 6 months post-registration experience as a nurse?
If the answer is ‘yes’ we would like to help you make the change through our BSc (Hons) Midwifery (shortened) programme. We work closely with the University of Suffolk to support your application to change career and we currently have vacancies for the September 2025 cohort.
Whilst completion of the programme does not automatically guarantee a permanent post, the Trust is keen to retain newly qualified midwives within the organisation.
All successful applicants will be invited to an interview day. Interviews will take place in conjunction with university lecturers and trust personnel (exact dates and times will be confirmed with successful candidates). Applicants should allow the whole day for the interview process. Please note, the NMC stipulate that shortened midwifery training can only be offered to qualified Adult Nurses (child branch, mental health, ODP and other healthcare practitioners will unfortunately not be considered).

The theoretical components of the course are led by the University of Suffolk in Ipswich. Teaching is provided via virtual classrooms and on-campus teaching and is organised into modules that are spread across the duration of the course. Practical placements are offered within the Trust, and you will be placed in various clinical locations to enable you to meet the NMC practice requirements. Clinical placements will include a community midwifery placement, midwifery led birthing unit, labour suite, antenatal clinic, a health visitor placement and neonatal unit placement. You will also spend some time at another trust experiencing leadership and team working. During these placements you will be supported by a practice supervisor and practice assessor.
Please note recruitment for student midwives is taking place at several partner trusts across East Anglia for the same course. If you apply to more than one NHS trust via nhsjobs, you will be interviewed only once but by a panel of representatives from your chosen trusts alongside a representative from the University. Please specify in your application which trusts you have applied to (or are intending to apply to) so that panel interviews can be arranged with the correct representatives from each trust. Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. There is a regular Thickthorn P&R service as well which is free. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

- Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered Nurse (Adult) first level status. This must be maintained to meet the NMC revalidation requirements for the duration of the course.
