Are you enthusiastic about supporting the health and wellbeing (HWB) of staff and looking for a new challenge?
An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the Staff Health and Wellbeing team which sits within the wider Occupational Health and Wellbeing Multidisciplinary Team. The post holder will create, promote and oversee a project to deliver a new staff preventative health programme, including the formation of two distinct HWB support pathways:
1. Diabetes prevention pathway
2. Work-related stress management pathway
As the post is a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027, emphasis will be placed on creating standard operation procedures (SOPs) and establishing future-proof administrative processes and onward referral pathways in order to embed both pathways into business as usual activities. Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to obtain a high level of engagement with all staff to ensure good utilisation and attendance through both pathways in order to fulfil our obligations with regards achieving outcome measures for the project.
Advert
The successful applicant will report to the Staff HWB Lead but will also work closely alongside colleagues from the wider Occupational Health and Wellbeing Multidisciplinary Team.
The post holder will primarily act as a project lead for the duration of the fixed-term programme, and will also be expected to deliver on aspects of each pathway, including (but not limited to) diabetes testing and result interpretation and the introduction and associated administration involved with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Stress Indicator Toolkit (SIT).
The role requires an individual with an existing level of project management experience who is happy to work independently, and is able to safely and accurately utilise project management methodology in order to deliver clearly defined project outcomes and deliverables both on time and within budget.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
- Develop and deliver an internal diabetes prevention pathway which is aligned with national best practice guidance, and agreed in partnership with the local integrated Care Board (ICB) clinical lead for Diabetes
- To establish a series of standard operating procedures which set out the requirements for each test(s) you will be carrying out (e.g. capillary blood sampling for blood glucose and/or HbA1c)
- To ensure, that point of care testing / quality control measures are in place, and that these measures are completed and recorded as per manufacturers schedule and in accordance with local policy (e.g. ensuring equipment is calibrated and documented appropriately)
- Use clinical knowledge to effectively interpret a range of health information and measurements in a holistic manner relevant to the individual staff member, and be able to clearly articulate the clinical significance of such measurement(s) providing appropriate advice
- Work autonomously utilising knowledge, skills and experience to have sensitive conversations with staff regarding their diabetes risk assessment results including, where required, using effective communication skills and motivational interviewing techniques to encourage appropriate behaviour/lifestyle change(s)
- Establish evidence based threshold values for the various tests being carried out which would trigger onward referral for further specialist medical review (i.e. referral to the national Diabetes Prevention Pathway (NDPP) and/or the individuals GP)
- Establish, promote and deliver a schedule of appointments for staff which covers a range of days and times in order to meet the needs of our Trust staff working at all sites
- Monitor appointment uptake and work with colleagues across the Trust and our satellite sites to achieve a high utilisation of available appointments
- To assist in identifying areas for health education for diabetes prevention, and take part in any health promotion programmes that Occupational Health and Wellbeing may organise
- Practices in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal codes of the professional regulatory bodies and/or Trust’s protocols and guidelines
- Is accountable for own practice and maintain professional standards at all times including high standards of cleanliness and ensure a well maintained working environment
- Demonstrates ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of staff attending appointments
- Work autonomously to deliver the diabetes prevention pathway and use problem solving skills as needed. For example, arranging repair of any equipment failure etc.
- Demonstrates concise, accurate, timely record keeping
- Displays good analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations
- Develops insight into evidence underpinning care and current health promotion advice
- Develops own clinical, technical and interpersonal skills, and critical thinking ability to become a competent practitioner. Works to achieve competencies appropriate to grade.
Administrative
- To gain specialist knowledge in order to lead and co-ordinate implementation of local guidelines for both project pathways into the organisation
- Collaborate with a range of stakeholders at all levels to ensure high awareness and knowledge of the benefits of the preventative health programme, and how this links with organisational strategy and values
- Develop and regularly review a targeted communications plan to ensure high uptake from a range of staff into both pathways
- Record, collate and distribute meeting minutes, and be responsible for updating action log from project steering group meetings
- To proactively support the project to ensure compliance with all requirements set out by Royal Berks Charity and/or NHS Charities Together as part of the conditions of project funding
- Liaise with colleagues in IT to ensure easily accessible booking systems are provided for both pathways
- Take ownership as project lead in the monitoring and auditing of the quality of care through a range of strategies, including risk management, incident reporting, complaints, research and effectiveness monitoring and clinical audit
- Extract data, run reports and present information collected from both pathways in order to provide an overview of any trends identified, and report these regularly to the Staff Health and Wellbeing Lead and Clinical Lead Psychologist
- Utilise existing Microsoft office skills to produce variety of reports including regular use of formula’s, pivot tables, GANTT charts, creation of graphs/charts to enable collation of regular reports, including additional data sets to fulfil project milestones and lead discussion on these with the project steering group
- Ensure own actions promote quality and alert others to quality issues
- Contributes to the development and continual improvement of the service
- Demonstrates commitment to the vision and objectives of the project. Work with the Staff Health and Wellbeing Lead to effectively manage the allocated financial resources within allocated budget for the project
- Ensure own practice complies with Data Protection / Confidentiality / Caldicott principles
- To ensure that appropriate stock and consumables are available to fulfil the requirements of both pathways
- To actively ensure equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in the delivery of both pathways
Teaching and Training
- Assists in the promotion/ development and maintenance of a culture within Occupational Health and Wellbeing which challenges and questions practice and promotes the quality of thinking amongst practitioners
- Works with team to develop effective and appropriate teaching, training and development for staff engaging with the preventative health programme project
Personal development
- Responsible for own continuing professional development and performance, maintaining own portfolio and if applicable, in accordance with re-registration requirements
- Is able to identify own development needs in relation to current practice and future plans, setting personal development objectives

- Registered Nurse (Pt 1/12) OR Post graduate qualification in Health Promotion / Public Health OR similar qualification
- Project/business management qualification (e.g. Project Management Professional PMP, Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship, PRINCE2) OR similar qualification
- Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of measurement and diagnosis procedures for type 2 diabetes, including local and national support pathways for diabetes prevention and management
