We are looking for an ambitious, enthusiastic registered pharmacy technician seeking a new and exciting challenge to cover maternity leave, 34 hours per week. This is a rare opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to utilise and develop their management and leadership skills, as they lead and develop dispensary services at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
The dispensary is a busy, fast paced environment that provides essential dispensing services to the wards, departments, and patients of Liverpool Women’s Hospital. You will be responsible for the day-to-day efficient running of the dispensary, the completion of rotas and the supervision and training of staff.
We are looking to appoint a confident and competent registered pharmacy technician who can demonstrate effective leadership skills, and who is looking to progress their career to manage the dynamic and friendly dispensary team. The successful candidate will be provided with all the relevant training and support, as well as provided with ample opportunities to allow personal growth, and career progression.

Supervise the dispensary staff and ensure the safe and timely supply of medicines is always maintained to the wards and departments of Liverpool Women’s Hospital
Ensure that operational dispensary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are always maintained and followed and will contribute to the maintenance of the programme with timely reviews.
Undertake accurate labelling and dispensing in accordance with SOPs by interpreting both paper and EPMa prescription charts and facilitate the safe supply of medicines.
Undertake allocated final accuracy checking slots within the dispensary as an ACT and to show continuous competency in checking accurately and safely.
Use the pharmacy computer system to maintain accurate patient records and information regarding supplies the pharmacy department have made.
Ensure dispensary staff complete allocated work to expected standards, which includes stock checks, expiry date checking and appropriate storage of medicines. To ensure that checked items are ready to be delivered in line with the schedules.
To have a working knowledge and be a user of all the electronic systems within the dispensary ensuring compliance with effective record management.
Provide professional advice and information to patients, relatives, carers, medical, midwifery and nursing staff regarding prescribed medicines and further supplies.
Provide support in implementing developments within dispensing services.

Job Summary
· To assist the Lead Pharmacy Technician in the operational management and development of the pharmacy department.
· To update and take responsibility for departmental policies and procedures for operational activities within the pharmacy department and ward areas.
· To plan, co-ordinate and manage the workload of pharmacy technical and support staff within the Pharmacy department.
· To ensure safe systems are in operation for dispensing and preparation of medicines in pharmacy and in clinical areas.
· To work with the Lead Pharmacy Technician to support performance management targets across the Pharmacy service.
· To ensure medicines management compliance as per Trust, regional and national guidelines.
· To support workforce planning for technical and support staff by actively participating in staff recruitment.
· Responsibility to analyse daily pharmacy data from various sources across site and proactively distribute staff to critical areas.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical/Operational
· Possesses knowledge across a range of pharmacy procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge, experience and relevant practices.
· To support Dispensary and Ward Based Services in a safe and efficient manner to ensure operation in line with best practice.
· To co-ordinate all technical and support staff, organising work schedules and ensure that staff respond to the changing demands during the working day, ensuring an efficient skill mix.
· To manage the technical staff in the dispensary and on wards to provide a dispensing service involving assessment of medicines suitability of safe re-use.
· To plan the work to maximize efficiency in accordance with agreed priorities particularly to reduce delays at discharge.
· Participate in regular Senior Technical Team meetings and cascade information to relevant technical and support staff groups.
· Anticipate changes in stock level requirements and liaise with purchasing staff to ensure that all stock levels are appropriate. To support procurement and purchasing processes in line with departmental requirements.
· To counsel and educate patients and carers on the correct use of their medication and assess their understanding of the medicines prescribed.
· To work alongside the pharmacy EPMA team in the management of current and future digital systems initiatives.
· To support the Lead Pharmacy Technician in the management of clinical trial activities.
· Manages and coordinates audits/research work to identify good practice and potential service developments.
Managerial/Leadership
· To work independently within appropriate guidelines, referring to manager when necessary.
· Management of technical and support staff; participate in appraisal/PDR’s, sickness absence, recruitment and selection decisions, departmental workload and allocation.
· Adhere to and promote the NHS code of conduct for managers and staff.
· In the absence of Lead Pharmacy Technician, represent the pharmacy service on relevant Trust and external committees.
Clinical Governance / Quality
· Ensure that Clinical Governance across medicines supply aspects of the pharmacy service is performed.

· Ensure technical and support staff are aware of their responsibilities under health and safety legislation and they are appropriately trained and provided with any necessary equipment to carry out their function.
· Ensure all ward based and dispensary technical and support staff comply with mandatory training requirements and professional registration.
· Use the Trusts incident reporting system to report and manage any medication errors, medicine alerts and medicine recalls.
Education, Training & Development
· To be responsible for the In-House training packages. Ensuring all relevant staff successfully complete as is required by department policies and procedures.
· To foster a culture of continuing professional education and vocational training of all technical and support staff.
· To deliver appropriate training within the Trust to medical staff and health care professionals.
· Deliver education/training programmes to Trust employees, internal and external to the pharmacy department.
General
· To participate in and fully co-operate with Bank Holiday, Statutory Holiday, weekend, early morning and evening services as per departmental arrangements.
· To work in all sections of the department as required by the Lead Pharmacy Technician.
· To uphold Trust and Pharmacy departmental policies and procedures at all times.
· To undertake such reasonable duties as may be required from time to time.
· To adapt and adhere to changes that may occur, which affect the current practices within the pharmacy department, such as the introduction of new equipment, policies and hours of working, after discussion and reasonable notice.
