Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia based at the world-renowned Royal Brompton Hospital. The successful applicant will work within the department of the Royal Brompton Hospital the opportunity for work across areas of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to holding full GMC registration and specialist registration in Anaesthesia or equivalent, FRCA or equivalent, the successful candidate will be in possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent or be within 6 months of possession at the time of interview. A minimum of two years of experience in adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia at Fellow and/or Consultant level is essential. Experience in cardiothoracic critical care is desirable. A UK, European or American Qualification in transoesophageal echocardiography is also essential.

Main clinical duties will be in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, catheter labs, diagnostic bronchoscopy. Some clinical sessions may be delivered on the Cardiac Critical care post op unit or in the pre-assessment clinic when undertaking flexible sessions.
The appointee will be required to participate in an adult on-call rota and the frequency of this will be medium. Emergency work arising from on-call duties will be considered in assessing the number of programmed activities for on-call in the agreed job plan.

- Providing anaesthetic support to emergency and elective services across cardiothoracic services including participating in the on-call rota.
- Providing anaesthetic support for diagnostic bronchoscopy and interventional radiology.
- When required, provide anaesthetic support for pre-assessment clinics and post op cardiac critical care.
- Participate fully in clinical audit and clinical governance including attendance at relevant meetings.
- Undertake teaching and training locally and nationally.
