We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team within the Department of Ophthalmology, in the post of Senior Oculoplastic Fellow (Trust doctor in ophthalmology ST7+ Equivalent).
The Oculoplastic service is run by 5 consultants: Mr Barnes, Miss Clarke, Mr Narayanan, Mr Meredith & Miss Rana-Rahman who all have specialist clinics and multidisciplinary clinics at the RVI.
The subspecialty work is divided further between the subspecialty interests of Lacrimal, Orbits, & Sockets.
Multidisciplinary services within the service include
· Regional thyroid eye disease service with Endocrinology department
· Periocular tumours with Mohs’ surgeons from the Dermatology department
· Craniofacial with Neurosurgeons, Plastic surgeons and Maxillofacial surgeons
· Endonasal DCR and orbital surgery with ENT surgeon
· Neuro-ophthalmology and orbital imaging, and base of skull imaging with Neuroradiology
· Complex midface reconstructions with Plastics and Burns surgeons
· Regional anophthalmic socket service with NAES ocular prosthetist

This post is aimed at post CCST trainees (ST7+) who have already demonstrated a significant interest in oculoplastics and are looking to further their surgical and clinical management skills including subspecialty experience to the level of an NHS consultant, with the possibility of highly specialised orbital surgical training. There is no on call commitment or banding with this post.

Clinical:
· Outpatient assessment, investigation and clinical management of oculoplastics patients
· Inpatient and surgical management including supervised and independent theatre lists
Administrative:
· Management of the specialist patient e-referrals
· Co-ordination of urgent specialist referrals, including complex inter-specialty patients
Research:
· Active research projects in thyroid eye disease
· Regional NETRiON research network opportunities
Teaching:
· Clinical and surgical supervision and training of junior medical staff, and specialist nursing staff
· Participation in regional postgraduate teaching, surgical simulation and cadaveric teaching courses

- Previous specialist training in oculoplastics with documentation of Oculoplastic experience to CCST level (ST7+)
- Experience in management of general ophthalmology emergency/on call patients
