Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Consultant in General Internal Medicine - Winter ward
3 MONTHS ONLY WINTER WARD POST
Full Time – 10 PAs per week
As Winter pressures continue, we have identified the need for additional consultant support for our inpatient services this Winter. These posts will therefore primarily support the delivery of care to medical inpatients. Depending on your specialty interests there may be opportunities to participate in a small amount of specialty work, acute or geriatric medicine including the unselected acute medical take, ambulatory care or engage in a more specialty specific activity. The primary focus of these posts though will be on providing medical care to inpatients on Winter ward.

To provide high quality, innovative and cost-effective acute medical care for patients in the 28-bedded General Medical Winter Ward on the St Thomas’ site.
To work with clinical colleagues in the GIM, Medical Sub-Specialties and Community Services to deliver seamless medical care.
To participate in clinical and other service activities with the aim of ensuring high standards of patient care.
To contribute to the educational, management, development and governance needs of the clinical service as requested.
To establish, promote and contribute to the research base through working collaboratively to answer key questions about service design, delivery and development.
Workload follows RCP guidance for General Internal Medicine.

The Department of General Medicine works closely with Acute Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and has consultants contributing from geriatric medicine, respiratory medicine, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, nephrology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, endocrinology and diabetes medicine and acute internal medicine.
Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC, hold Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT in General Internal Medicine or equivalent at interview stage. Experience at consultant level in internal medicine in the NHS is highly desirable. A CCT in another medical specialty is welcomed and where possible we would try to incorporate a small amount of specialty relevant activity. We are looking for skilled consultant who is passionate about patient centred care but also who understand and can navigate discharge processes and planning.
The post-holders will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
