Job overview
An exciting opportunity for 2 Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) based at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (1 at Conquest & 1 at EDGH). This apprenticeship provides the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Pharmacy Technicians over two years. You will gain extensive understanding of pharmacy based knowledge whilst rotating across other areas within the trust. This is a fantastic opportunity to undertake a formal professional qualification whilst learning on the job.
Candidates must have a minimum of 4 GCSE’s grade C/4 or above which MUST include Maths, English. Science GCSE is not mandatory but is preferred. If you do not hold a Science GCSE then you must be able to pass a screening assessment meeting the minimum educational requirements of Science GCSE grade C/4. Certificates will need to be provided prior to interview stage in order to be verified. Candidates must also meet the eligibility criteria for Apprenticeships.
The post holder will be based at either Conquest Hospital, Hastings or Eastbourne District General Hospital but will involve cross-site working.

You are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and be able to integrate into teams.
You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program. You will need to demonstrate excellent work/study/life balance skills and be very self-motivated.
4 days each week will be work based gaining the vocational experience and completing competencies required to complete the Level 3 diploma. 1 day per week will be given to learn the knowledge required to underpin this diploma. Your training will involve working with an assessor to develop a work-based portfolio, undertaking work-based assessments, and completing all assignments/projects.
Trainees who successfully complete the training programme, an e-portfolio and the end point assessment (EPA) will be eligible to register with the GPhC and practice as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to service delivery at either site on a flexible working basis which will include weekends and evenings. You will remain under supervision for the duration of the training period but may earn a degree of autonomy determined by the supervisor and successful completion of assessment or competency standards to undertake specific tasks.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSEs at grade A*-C/9-4 and must include (as a minimum) English Language and Mathematics. Science GCSE at grade A*-C/9-4 or successfully complete screening assessment with education provider (to be able to take screening assessment you must hold level 2 in Pharmacy services qualification and/or have 2 years pharmacy experience) OR Have a level 2 Pharmacy services qualification and be able to successfully complete a screening assessment with the education provider.
- Aged 16 or above.
- Resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years.
- Must not hold a Level 3 qualification or above in the same training subject.
- Must not already be in any form of formal government-funded education.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ or BTEC level 2 in a GPhC recognised qualification e.g. Pharmacy Services
- Studied to AS or A level standard or undertaken further education certificate(s).
