An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Technician to join the technical services team within the Access to Communication and Technology Service.
The post-holder will work within three areas relating to Electronic Assistive Technology (EAT): people with severe physical disabilities who may need Environmental Control (EC) or computer access and people with communication and language difficulties who may need Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC)
The post holder will:
Have a good standard of education to GCSE level, including Maths and English
Have a HNC Electronics or Engineering (or equivalent) or relevant experience.
Need to work independently and travel widely within the West Midlands region and therefore being a car driver is essential.

The post will be working in the ACT Technical Service, a team of technical staff that support the clinical team in delivering solutions to clients. The post holder will report to the Senior Technician for their daily duties however the post holder will be expected to manage their own workload.
The primary role for this post is to configure and install new equipment , repair existing equipment, mounting devices to wheelchairs and perform the annual maintenance including statutory electrical PAT testing, generally in domiciliary settings throughout the West Midlands (ie patient’s homes). There will also be a requirement to deliver/collect equipment as well as occasional development of new devices and/or solutions.
To establish effective working relation with the following:
- ACT Team – Clinical, Technical, Stock and Admin staff
- Patients, their carers and families
- Assistive technology providers
- Other departments
- External organisations such as Higher Education providers, professional bodies and other stakeholders

Access to Communication and Technology is a specialist electronic assistive technology service, which is based at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6JA. We are a service made up of clinicians (Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Health Care Scientists and assistant Practitioners), technicians, stock, Clinical support Staff and administration staff providing specialist assessment, set up, provision and maintenance of electronic assistive technology to meet the needs of children and adults who require Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Environmental Control (EC).
We are a friendly, enthusiastic, experienced, and supportive team who work collaboratively as part of a national network of similar services, all funded by NHS England.

In accordance with UK Home Office requirements, Band 2 clinical and non-clinical roles and Band 3 Non-Clinical roles are not eligible for sponsorship.
Please note that the majority of non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Band 3 - 6) with the exception of those which appear on this list - link, will not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK.
All non-clinical roles (Agenda for Change Bands 7 - 9) that meet the prescribed skill level (RQF 6) and salary threshold will be eligible for sponsorship.
