We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and dedicated Maintenance Shift Team Leaders to be based at our Denmark Hill site but may be required to work at a number of satellite sites.
The successful applicants will work within the engineering team ensuring the effective maintenance and operation of all buildings, plant and associated services in an efficient, economical and safe manner in accordance with all statutory, NHS Trust and departmental guidelines.

The post holder’s main areas of responsibility are managing an Estates shift team, including managing three members of staff, owning the performance of the team and ensuring work is completed in a timely fashion and to the standard expected. When on the day shift, the role holder will also manage the day working maintenance teams. The role holder will need to make decisions on the priority of works to be completed throughout the shift and will need it liaise with senior managers to update on progress, risks, incidents and any other shift related information.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Communication and Representation
1.1 Extensive reporting to senior managers on shift performance, risks or near misses, completed and prioritised work and ongoing projects
1.2 Communicating with both technical and non-technical colleagues on work being carried out, providing oversight and ownership of all shift members’ work
1.3 Keeping in regular contact with contractors operating and working onsite, managing the quality of services provided including conducting spot checks and maintain the proper lifecycle of repair and build work
1.4 Represent the CEF department in various internal Audits
2 Strategy and Planning
2.1 Prioritising and planning work to be conducted on shift-by-shift members by working with senior leaders, analysts and shift team members to understand scale, scope and effort required to complete works
2.2 Maintaining the planned maintenance schedule and allocating work appropriately
3 Reporting and Analysis
3.1. Providing regular updates to Head of Estates, Director of CEF and other leaders on performance of the shift, including analysing shift work completed, in progress and to be started to report on areas of improvement, overall efficiency of the team and forward planning both reactive and planned maintenance
4. Information Systems and Data Management
4.1 Understanding and using systems to allocate and record works such as CAFM systems.
5. Operational Performance
5.1 Managing the In house team & shift team and closely monitoring individual and team performance, including reporting on number of jobs raised, in progress and completed by the shift team & Maintenance team
5.2 Monitoring SLAs both internally within the department and SLAs of our key contractors to ensure they are delivering a valuable, efficient and cost-effective service
5.3 Must hold and be capable and willing to undertake CP (Competent Person) or AP (Authorised Person) skills and be able to respond to requests as needed
5.4 Supervising and undertaking estates and maintenance work with a trade background as an electrician, plumber or similar.
5.5 Carry emergency WIFI phone & emergency bleep
6 Research and Service Development
6.1 Recommends areas of improvement within the shift team and across the entire CEF department
6.2 Identifies efficiencies and implements these within the shift team
7. Policy and Process
7.1 Encouraging staff to report near misses, risks and hazards, as per the process
• 7.2 Managing the permit to works process to ensure staff are adequately trained and skilled to conduct work
8. People Management and Performance
8.1 Leading, coaching and managing the performance of the team in line with good people management practices. Ensuring excellence is recognised and underperformance is addressed.
8.2 Participating in regular performance appraisal meetings and ensure each member of the team has a clear set of objectives and development plans.
8.3 Ensuring the team is compliance with all statutory, mandatory training together with any professional training requirements, ensuring they are up to date and fully compliant.
8.4 Managing team absences including sickness in line with Trust policy ensuring the appropriate return to work meetings occur, e-roster is updated, and productivity is at keep to the highest possible level.
8.5 Identifying and filling any vacancies that arise within the team in line with the Trust’s recruitment policy and process.
8.6 Identifying talent and supporting the internal talent management process in order attract and retain and succession plan for your people.
8.7 Reviewing skills mix at regular intervals in order to identify any potential opportunities to maximise resource utilisation / allocation, ensuring job descriptions are kept up to date.
8.8 Ensuring overall wellbeing of the team is maintained. Continuously support in improving the morale of the team and implementing a culture of zero-tolerance for bullying and harassment.
