Working for us is an experience like no other.  We provide emergency and urgent care, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, operating across the largest ambulance region in England of 10,000 square miles and responding to an average of 2,650 incidents every day.

Every year we manage around 1 million incidents and travel over 22 million miles across the South West. We have over 90 ambulance stations, two Emergency Operations Centres where our 999 calls are answered and two Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART) who respond to major incidents involving hazardous materials or in hazardous environments.

In 2023 we launched our Trust Strategy 2023-28 this strategy represents a renewal of our commitment to continuously improving the care we give to patients across the South West. The strategy confirms a new vision and sets four clear strategic objectives for the next five years.  For the first two years we will be focused on stabilising – we aim to deliver effective patient care, safety and performance, while also strengthening our partnership working. During the later years, we will use patient insights to continuously improve our service, and enhanced partner working to deliver, integrated and co-ordinated care for our 999 patients.

We have also set three new values where we work as one team, are united in our compassionate approach and where we are continually innovative and striving to improve.

The outstanding beauty, culture and diversity of our region – from the coast to city centres, from universities to ancient monuments – draws people from across the UK and the world.  At the heart of this varied landscape, diverse population and wealth of history we employ over 6000 people and are supported by over 575 volunteers, serving a population that increases from 5.7 million up to 23 million throughout the year.
