Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) officially attained Teaching Hospital status on 1st April 2020; this is the start of our ambition to achieve University Teaching Hospital status. Supported by Edge Hill University, the University of Bolton and the University of Central Lancashire, with approval from regulators NHS Improvement/England and the Department of Health and Social Care, from the 1st April 2020, the Trust will now be known as Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WWL).
Attaining Teaching Hospital status enables WWL to further enhance education and training capacity, grow research capability and improve the recruitment and retention of high quality staff across all professions. Ultimately, this will result in a positive impact on the quality of care and outcomes for patients.

The successful candidates will:
- Support in the creation and lead on the interpretation of analytics.
- Have good analytical, technical and communication skills in order to aid the production of accurate & robust statistics & intelligence.
- Understand their stakeholder’s strategic direction, as well as current issues, in order to know how to prioritise & manage their workload to ensure the most effective outputs are delivered at the right time.
The successful candidate(s) will also have to possess excellent numeracy, logical and communication skills, be educated to Degree level or have equivalent experience & knowledge in the Analytics/Business Intelligence sphere.
This is a development role where the successful candidate(s) will commence on the job training as a band 6 before progressing to band 7 on successful completion of the programme.

- To work alongside the Analytics & Data Science team in the provision of an Analytics and Business Intelligence service to the Trust, its Divisions, Corporate Functions and Commissioners.
- The post holder will support in the creation or interpretation of analytics.
- The role will also support the design and rollout of interactive dashboards and will aid the DAA Development team during their production.
- The post holder will require good analytical, technical and communication skills in order to aid the production of accurate & robust statistics & intelligence.
- The post holder will understand their stakeholder’s strategic direction, as well as current issues, in order to know how to prioritise & manage their workload to ensure the most effective outputs are delivered at the right time.
- The post holder should have a good awareness of the Trusts external environment to identify & respond to variations from the local or national trends.
- This is a hybrid working role where the successful candidate(s) will be required to commute into the Wigan office at a minimum of one day per week and will be flexible to the needs of the department and trust.

· To take a lead role in the implementation and monitoring of reporting mechanisms to improve Management Decision Making process.
· To lead in the provision of data intelligence and advice to the Divisional Director of Performance, Divisional Clinical Director, Performance Managers, Divisional Heads of Department and other managers within the relevant Directorates.
· To collaborate with the Divisions in their annual performance, business and commissioning planning processes.
· Meet with stakeholders to ensure that any potential opportunities or issues are identified early enough for action to be effective.
· To have responsibility for any intelligence produced, validated or submitted by the post holder and within the team under their direction.
· To support the quality and safety improvement within the division by providing analysis and guidance on measurement, reporting and data capture requirements.
· Integrate into the associated division / function and work alongside performance leads, clinicians, managers, accountants to fully understand their requirements.
· In conjunction with the Analytics team, produce and review regular monthly performance reports and disseminate to key divisional contacts. Provide advice and support to divisional staff to aid interpretation of the reports and alerts to key managers with regards to anomalies and adverse variances.
· Liaise with the accountants to ensure a full understanding of activity issues affecting financial performance in order that the divisions can be supported with appropriate intelligence in understanding pertinent action and decisions necessary to rectify poor performance.
· Play a key role in obtaining divisional agreement and ownership of performance targets
· Set the standard for reporting of activity and performance, as well as reporting styles and formatting for the other DAA Analysts to follow.
· Undertake constant horizon scanning to keep ahead of what is coming next to be prepared and aware of any business opportunities through review of benchmarking tools, advising and support the division / Trust accordingly.
· Produce sensitive and confidential data for ad-hoc requests. Liaising with other departments and outside agencies to ensure that all deadlines, particularly tight deadlines, are met.
· Perform complex patient based analyses from Trust’s systems to tight deadlines. To use the tools provided primarily by (but not restricted to) the data warehouse.
· Interpretation of national guidance/definitions and instigate and oversee the implementation of changes to the data warehouse.
· Support the data quality responsibilities of business intelligence projects through the identification of data anomalies, provision of appropriate analyses and participation in investigations / audits.
· Attend / participate in Trust training programmes, both within the department and with multi-disciplinary audiences.
· To be aware of national developments within the NHS and the wider business intelligence community, and lead on ensuring the department stays up to date in actioning to its reporting.
· Provide training sessions on a group or individual basis as and when required.
· Work with users to resolve problems and issues with Business Intelligence reporting.
· Work with clients in developing new BI reporting solutions and ensuring effective capture of end user requirements.
· Document all procedures and work closely with the Production & Modernisation, Business Analysis and Data Quality Team to ensure the ongoing improvement in Trust recording and use of Information.
· Support and promote the Trust’s DAA Strategy
· Produce and safeguard sensitive and confidential data for ad-hoc requests.
· Liaise with other departments and outside agencies to ensure tight deadlines are met.
· Research and drive innovation, and where possible, explore automated approaches for BI reporting.
· Assist with the identification of efficiencies, while being able to understand and explain the potential knock-on effect to quality and performance.
· Act as a mentor to junior staff in the team, ensuring that expert knowledge and skills are passed through the team and developed.
- Provide the wider Trust with expert knowledge and understanding of the Trusts datasets, with the ability to explain the connection to operational processes
