Job overview
University College London Hospitals is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Pain Medicine, working in the Pain Management Centre at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery. This post is required to cover clinical activity this year as well as ensuring a consultant-led service at all times.

The Pain Management Centre comprises 15 consultants with a full multidisciplinary team. It is housed in a new purpose-designed facility and is a nationally recognised centre of excellence. There are unique opportunities to work with patients who experience persistent abdominal and pelvic pain, complex neuropathic pain, cancer-related pain, facial pain and inpatients with complex medical needs. We also have an active neuromodulation service.

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration. NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment.
- On GMC Specialist Register for anaesthesia or within 3 months of attainment of CCT in anaesthesia at date of interview
- MB BS [or equivalent] medical qualification
- FRCA or equivalent anaesthetic experience.
Desirable criteria
- FFPMRCA or equivalent

Experience
Essential criteria
- Completed a recognised period of training leading to a CCT in anaesthesia or has gained equivalent experience
- Completed a recognised period of training and experience in Pain Medicine equivalent to what we would expect for Royal College of Anaesthetists for Advanced Pain Training
- Experience in managing patients within an MDT chronic pain service
Desirable criteria
- Completed recognised period of training in a specialist pain clinic setting approved by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for Advanced Pain Training or equivalent
- Have worked within the context of an interdisciplinary / multispeciality team where the candidate has been able to obtain significant experience in the management of patients with complex pain problems
- Evidence of commitment to service improvement/ clinical excellence
