Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Northumbria Primary Care for a Band 4 Registered Pharmacy Technician to join the team, supporting a group of GP practices within our West Northumberland Neighbourhood (NPC Ponteland and NPC Haydon Bridge and Allendale). The successful candidate will work closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to process a wide range of medication related tasks. The successful candidate will be expected to work between Ponteland and Haydon Bridge. The base site will be Ponteland and milage can be claimed from base site - the postholder must have business insurance on their policy.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be required to undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will need to be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.

The role will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, actioning of discharge summary medication changes, liaising with care homes regarding prescription queries and supporting the organisation move towards online prescription services. An understanding of primary care operations and use of SystmOne would be an advantage but is not essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work under the management of the Clinical Pharmacists in the West Neighbourhood to deliver a comprehensive medicines management to ensure a safe and efficient service is maintained, delivering a range of medicines management activities including medicines reconciliation and repeat prescription requests
To liaise with pharmacy staff in all sectors and other healthcare professionals to ensure a patient orientated medicines management service is provided, conducting medicines reviews for patients identified by the wider multidisciplinary team or from other medicines management initiatives.
To work closely with the Clinical Pharmacists to adopt a team approach to medicines management, acting as a key member of the multidisciplinary team and the wider pharmacy team, providing medicines management advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
To work with the Clinical Pharmacists to develop and undertake medicines management audits, to support discussion within the practice and agree subsequent actions.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within Northumbria Primary Care. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications / Professional Registration
Essential criteria
- BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ Level 3 supported by appropriate underpinning knowledge e.g. national certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
- To hold CPPE PCPEP qualification. If not held will need to be complete within 24 months.
- An appropriate accredited technician checking qualification.
Experience and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Previous relevant experience working in Pharmacy
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
- Evidence of personal insight and sound judgment.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in primary care, or with primary care teams
- Previous medicines management experience
- Audit experience

Essential criteria
- It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
