Are you passionate about paediatric care and ready to take your pharmacy career to the next level? We are looking for an Advanced Paediatric Pharmacist (Band 8a) to join our dynamic team within the Children’s Hospital at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CHOX) and as part of the Neurosciences, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Specialist Surgery, Children's and Neonates (NOTSSCaN) division. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a leading tertiary centre, supporting a wide range of paediatric sub-specialties. You will play a key role in optimising medicines use, ensuring patient safety, and driving innovation in clinical pharmacy practice. The role combines hands-on clinical work, strategic service development, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to deliver the highest standards of care for children and young people.

What You’ll Do:
· Deliver expert ward-based clinical pharmacy services and participate in ward rounds, clinics, and MDT meetings.
· Develop and maintain advanced clinical skills, including non-medical prescribing (NMP).
· Lead on medicines optimisation, governance, and evidence-based practice for complex and high-cost therapies.
· Contribute to the development of protocols and guidelines for safe, effective, and economical use of medicines.
· Support strategic initiatives to enhance paediatric pharmacy services across the Trust.
· Provide reciprocal cover and assist with dispensary duties when required.

1. To be an active member of the Pharmacy department and specified clinical area, and to ensure continuous two-way exchange of information to maintain high standards of medicines use within the Trust.
2. To promote safe, effective & economic use of medicines within the Trust.
3. To participate in, develop and provide clinical pharmacy services to paediatric clinical areas.
4. To provide specialised professional and technical education to enable the paediatric service to meet high standards of patient care and safety.
5. Routinely review, update, or develop paediatric medicines related guidelines.
6. Provide pharmaceutical advice to patients, parents or specialists regarding their medicines.
7. Have delegated responsibility for specific aspects of the paediatric pharmacy service as agreed with the Directorate Lead Pharmacist. e.g. weekly rotas, attendance at Directorate executive or Governance meetings and MDTs.
8. Support and deputise for the Directorate Pharmacist in the provision of a safe, effective and efficient clinical pharmacy service to the Children’s Hospital, in accordance with local and national standards and strategy.
9. To support the paediatric pharmacy team for inpatient PN and home PN management.
10. To champion the needs of paediatric patients in relevant forums e.g. pharmacy governance and medicines management committee.
11. To direct members of the team in an objective way, including audits.
12. To provide education and training to pharmacy and medical staff, students and trainees.
13. Support and mentor junior pharmacists in the paediatric pharmacy team, ensuring they have education and training relevant to their development, regular one to ones and appraisals.
14. To work with the Education and Training Lead Pharmacist to ensure the organisation and implementation of appropriate training, including trainee pharmacists, students, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
