An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, proactive and dynamic pharmacist to lead our clinical pharmacy service to the Gastrointestinal (GI) Services Division during a period of maternity leave for our current Lead Clinical Pharmacist. GI Services incorporates our Intestinal Failure, Obesity Services, Colorectal Surgery, Colorectal Medicine, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Upper GI Surgery, Upper GI Medicine, Vascular services, and Hepatology services.
You will lead a team of pharmacists and a Medicines Management Technician to provide a full clinical service to our medical gastroenterology, surgical gastrointestinal and intestinal failure wards based in University College Hospital Tower, along with the outpatient Inflammatory Bowel Disease service, and the Endoscopy Unit and Infusion Clinic.
Your extensive experience of working with complex parenteral nutrition patients will be of value in leading on the provision of clinical pharmacy services to the Intestinal Failure (IF) Service and UCLH Nutrition Team, where the team participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, team meetings and clinics. The IF Service currently includes management of PN for around 130 outpatients.

You will act as an expert resource on the safe & effective use of medicines for the GI Services Division and will lead on medicines-related clinical governance issues, including responsibility for incident, complaint & claim handling; development of guidelines, policies & procedures; monitoring and evaluation of services.
You will identify and lead on quality improvement projects to enhance the safety, efficacy and/or efficiency of services, and provide relevant evaluated financial data for medicines expenditure, income, and cost saving or avoidance initiatives, such as the adoption of best values medicines and biosimilars.
In conjunction with our Pharmacy Homecare Team, you will support homecare schemes including PN for IF patients, and a range of biologics for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).The UCLH Pharmacy team is well integrated into clinical practice and works closely with all professions and staff groups in order to provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy support for inpatient, day case, and outpatient gastroenterology and nutrition patients.
As part of our broader clinical pharmacy team, you will contribute to the implementation & analysis of local and national initiatives to further develop our services. You will also contribute to the delivery of educational & developmental programmes, including UCL School of Pharmacy undergraduate clinical placements, the JPB Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, and our rotational programme for band 7 clinical pharmacists.
