Job overview
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic full time Payroll Transactions Officer to join our dedicated team of Finance professionals.
You will be a self-motivated, pro-active individual with a positive attitude and good communication skills. You will be able to flexibly manage your workload and provide a full service as a dual role in both the Payroll Liaison and Accountancy Services teams.
Careful use of Trust systems both manual and electronic, to ensure accuracy of data. Store and share information in accordance with department protocols, Trust Information Governance Policy and Data Protection Legislation.
To act as a point of liaison between Financial Services and SBS and improving the accuracy of the General Ledger (GL). Support the resolution of pay related queries, prepare the relevant interface files for staff expenses, validate weekly/monthly deduction and payment files and reconcile pay related control accounts

To support the process of resolving any pay or staff expense related queries and improving the accuracy of the information that generates a payroll transaction. To create interface files to be shared with the Sussex Health and Care Payroll Hub to facilitate payment of staff expenses and the weekly / monthly payroll.
To lead on the process of reconciling any pay of staff expense related control accounts, investigating and resolving any queries and ensuring accuracy in any balance being held.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent including English and Maths (Grade C and above)
- • Evidence of financial accounting experience in a large/complex organisation
- • NVQ level 4 / Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Technician level or equivalent level of experience
Desirable criteria
- • Payroll Diploma
- • ECDL or alternative IT qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- • At least 2 years NHS Payroll experience or equivalent large complex organisation or knowledge and experience of computerised payroll systems
- • Experience of maintaining appropriate audit/management controls
- • Experience of technical accounting, capital accounting and/or financial management experience in the NHS or other large complex organisation
- • Experience of analysing and investigating financial data
Desirable criteria
- • Equivalent experience working in a multi-disciplinary payroll or finance department
- • NHS Accounting Experience

Essential criteria
- • Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and non-verbal
- • Highly numerical with strong excel and MS office skills, attention to detail and the ability to manipulate, interrogate and understand financial and payroll data
- • A good range of financial and other analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to recommend appropriate change
- • Ability to work collaboratively, working within and outside of a team environment
- • Ability to balance the requirement for periods of concentration with the need to deal with interruptions and a change in focus at short notice
- • Good IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
- • Understanding of expenses both NHS and HMRC
