Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our friendly and dedicated cardiology pharmacy team at Harefield Hospital.
As a cardiology pharmacist , you will need to have broad clinical pharmacy experience and ideally have experience in the field of cardiovascular medicine either at a hospital or primary care setting. You will have completed or working towards a Postgraduate Qualification in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice. Independent Pharmacist Prescriber qualification would be an advantage, however, full support would be provided for the right candidate to undertake this whilst in post after gaining sufficient cardiology pharmacy experience.
The role will involve providing a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to cardiology patients at Harefield Hospital, supporting inpatients clinical care from admission to discharge. You will have an active role in attending multidisciplinary cardiology ward rounds and meetings.
You will gain unique experience in delivering on our established cardiology homecare services supporting the care of outpatients diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolaemia.
You must be able to work under pressure and possess excellent problem-solving skills. Being qualified as a pharmacist independent prescriber would be an advantage but full support would be provided for the right candidate to undertake this training after gaining sufficient cardiology experience.

To provide a safe, efficient and high-quality clinical pharmacy service to cardiology inpatient and deliver cardiology outpatient pharmacy services.
To work closely with the Senior Pharmacist in Cardiology on the development of policies, guidelines and protocols.
To execute effective monitoring of the use of medication, adjusting dosages and route of administration through timely intervention and communication with medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals.
To deliver a safe, efficient and cost-effective use of medicines within Cardiology, by the provision of education and training, procedures, protocols, and medicines usage information.
To provide pharmacist-led medicines optimization services using clinical guidelines and protocols.
To deliver comprehensive pharmaceutical care to cardiology patients through clinical pharmacy services and attend appropriate MDT ward rounds, clinics and meetings.
To assist in implementing agreed clinical governance initiatives.
To deliver audit and practice-based research working closely with the senior pharmacist for cardiology and the wider cardiology multidisciplinary team
To mentor junior pharmacists and pre-registration trainee pharmacists working within cardiology.
To be able to and willing to act as pre-registration trainee pharmacist designated supervisor.
To support the department seven day working and on-call pharmacist services on a rota basis.
