The role involves the planning and delivery of complex radiotherapy procedures to a wide range of benign and malignant conditions to a high level of accuracy. Using individual judgement on a daily basis to verify and maintain reproducible and precise treatment. Work within departmental protocols, deviating where necessary to reach sound conclusions and provide optimum care. As an advanced Practitioner they are expected to justify medical exposures where necessary.
The role involves working autonomously within the legal, ethical and professional framework provided by the professional body. Generate new solutions to identify and best meet the needs of the patient.

The band 7 will work within the quality system at all times. Question and propose changes to procedures when necessary, to maintain the validity and appropriateness of the system with new and changing practices.
In partnership with patients and other professionals make sound, ethically-based decisions in the interest of patients and the absence of precedents and protocols.
They must at all times demonstrates safe use and maintenance of expensive, specialist equipment used by self and others, using quality assurance methods.
The band 7 is the lead liaison with all members of the multidisciplinary team, including clinicians, engineers, nurses, physics colleagues, students and other allied health professionals, to maintain a positive working relationship across all professional boundaries.
All band 7’s will annually appraise junior band 5 and band 6 radiographers

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in therapeutic radiography or equivalent formal qualification.
- Health Profession Council (HCPC) registration as a therapy or nuclear medicine radiographer.
Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience in planning and or dosimetry
- Participation in audit/clinical governance.
- MSc or Master’s level equivalent experience.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant postgraduate experience with specialist training and knowledge. At least 18 months as a band 6 radiographer.
- Practical experience in planning and delivering a wide range of radiotherapy techniques.
- Leadership experience.
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Provide specialist clinical training and undertake presentations, both within the dept and nationally in conferences and workshops
- Plan, carry out and analyse clinical and departmental audits.
- Plan, prioritise and organise own and section workload.
- Be committed to self - development and continued professional development.
- Work confidently within the multidisciplinary team. Interpret a wide range of imaging modalities for planning and treatment optimisation.
