Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
FCAMHS is commissioned by NHS England and delivered by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. The team provides specialist forensic mental health expertise for young people under 18 across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.Consultant Psychiatrists are a valuable and finite resource within our clinical services and whilst the primary responsibility for every consultant is the delivery of a high-quality clinical service all consultants will be expected to be actively involved in the strategic development of the service and work with their non-medical senior leaders to steer the development of their service in line with the strategic direction of the organisation.
Clare Lodge
Clare Lodge is the only all girls Secure Welfare unit in the country and as such the health team is a service that provides national coverage. To take away the liberty of a child for their own safety is a significant welfare issue so young people are only admitted as a result of high-risk behaviours that have persisted over time despite exhausting every other community resource available to engage and support them. Due to their incredible complexity resulting from disrupted attachments and multiple complex traumas, with significant amounts of sexual trauma, young people received into secure care are known to have multiple unmet physical and mental health needs as well as significant difficulty forming relationships.
Overview of the general duties/responsibilities:
1. Be an active participant and leader of the team, contributing to and developing the operational and clinical function of the service (with a focus on the management and treatment of the high-risk patients)
2. Ensure clinical audit of the service and implementation of appropriate assessment tools and outcome measures as an integrated part of the service and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
3. Participate and engage with service development and wider Trust development initiatives.
4. Provide evidence-based interventions for patients under their care, and support management of the service according to Trust policies and NICE standards.
5. Liaise promptly with patients, carers, other psychiatry colleagues, general practitioners, and voluntary and statutory organisations to ensure high quality well-co-ordinated care.
6. Complete administrative tasks associated with the care of patients in a timely manner. This will include recording clinical activity accurately, comprehensively, and promptly. It also includes ensuring that relevant KPIs, clustering and CQUIN requirements are fulfilled within their service.
7. The post holder will share responsibility for and will actively participate in the provision of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with consultant colleagues in the Trust, and will also contribute to teaching, supervision, and training of staff of other disciplines.
8. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to junior doctors as necessary.
9. Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Approved Clinician/ Mental health Act Section 12 (2) approval and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
10. Comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the clinical director and other managers in preparing plans for services.
11. Offer supervision to other members, both medical and non-medical.
12. Travel between Trust sites will be expected where required to facilitate the delivery of the role
Management:
The post-holder will:
1. Be responsible for playing a full part in the management and further clinical development of services and contribute fully to development of the service.
2. Participate developing policies and ways of working in collaboration with other agencies.
3. Contribute to the clinical governance within the team by responding to formal and informal complaints, SUI and SIR investigations and sharing learning from the same.
4. Regularly attend local Consultants’ meetings and other relevant service management meetings
5. Be expected to participate in various committees and project teams to support the advancement of clinical care and quality improvement.
