This is an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to develop and enhance their clinical expertise in paediatric dysphagia and communication within a busy acute tertiary paediatric hospital setting.
The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is one of the largest tertiary paediatric hospitals in the UK, admitting children from across the North West of England. As part of the acute paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team, you will manage a diverse caseload of children with feeding and acquired communication difficulties, including those with complex medical needs.
Working across all wards and specialist outpatient clinics, you will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team committed to providing holistic, patient-centered care. You may be involved in the assessment and management of infants and children with tracheostomies, metabolic conditions, and rare or congenital disorders.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and management of paediatric dysphagia, including oral feeding difficulties and acquired communication needs.
Collaborative working within a MDT across wards and outpatient services.
Providing education, advice, and support to patients, families/carers, and wider healthcare teams.
Contributing to specialist assessments such as videofluoroscopy (awareness of principles required).
Advert
You should have
Significant experience in paediatric dysphagia, ideally within an acute NHS setting.
A Post-Basic Dysphagia Qualification or equivalent (or working towards).
Experience working with infants and children with special needs, including pre-school and school-aged populations.
Strong communication skills and the ability to support and educate families and professionals.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise a busy caseload and remain calm under pressure.
Support and Development:
You will be supported by an experienced and friendly team of Speech and Language Therapists, including access to a dedicated clinical supervisor, professional leads, and peer support. The post offers excellent opportunities for professional development, including formal supervision and access to in-house training.
