This is an exciting opportunity to join the upper GI service as a Band 7 CNS.

You will be supported by the multidisciplinary upper GI team
The purpose of the job is to provide information, advice, support, assessment, Interventions, support and follow up for Upper GI patients . The post holder will be required to continually develop and monitor the effectiveness of the services provided by the Trust. In addition, you will be required to liaise and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless and effective care for patients.

· Ensure nursing care is delivered in an expert and professional manner compatible with current research-based protocols and be responsible for maintaining accurate, effective and comprehensive written nursing records.
· Provision of information, advice and support to inpatients, outpatients and their relatives/carers.
· Provide support to ward staff and act as a liaison between services including liaison between GPs, community teams and other MDTs.
· Provide support to services to ensure timely and appropriate preadmission care and inpatient interventions
· Ensure effective liaison and referral processes with other specialities e.g. oncology and palliative care.
· Provide support to cancer services in monitoring patient progress within the pathways/MDT preparation.
· Develop and maintain Professional competence, authority and credibility through clinical practice.
· Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of evidence based nursing while practising standards, guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways
Working for our organisation
The Upper GI cancer nurse specialist within the Gastroenterology service of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals works collaboratively with Gastroenterologists, Oncologists, radiologists and surgeons across the cancer networks for the upper GI and HPB cancer services.

Currently the charges are - Basic DBS check £25.50, Standard DBS check £25.50 and Enhanced DBS check £53.50.
You are encouraged where possible, to register for the DBS update service. This is an annual registration fee of £16. By registering for the update service you will not have the additional cost of repeated disclosures.
Should you withdraw your application, you may be required to reimburse the cost of the DBS check.
DBS checks remain free of charge for volunteer positions.
