Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Respiratory Medicine Directorate at Wythenshawe hospital for a 12 month fixed term locum consultant post for a consultant with a special interest in Interstitial Lung Disease.
The Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service is the regional ILD tertiary centre receiving referrals from Greater Manchester and a wider North West area. It is lead by Dr Conal Hayton and supported by Prof Colm Leonard, Dr Cristina Avram, Dr Bavi Vijaykumar, Dr Mahin Ahmad, Dr Laurence Pearmain & Dr Jenny King. In addition, there are 2 clinical fellows, 5 specialist nurses and 3 pharmacists. The service provides general ILD clinics as well as subspecialist Rheumatology ILD, Vasculitis ILD, Familial ILD, Sarcoidosis clinics and offers an outreach nursing service to North Manchester and Central Manchester Hospitals. The service has a strong research tradition and experience and are currently running a number of commercial and non-commercial studies. The ILD team are focused on improving patient pathways and early review and diagnosis in ILD.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management and treatment for patients with ILD and general respiratory.
General duties include:
· Provision of a high quality service to the Trust with responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to the specialty in an inpatient and outpatient setting.
· In conjunction with consultant colleagues, to provide and develop clinical leadership and contribute to the vision and values of the service.
· Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
· Participate in clinical governance processes, continuing professional development.
· Contribute with on-going strategic redesign.
· Complete mandatory training and undertake annual appraisal.
These duties will vary from according to the evolution and development of Respiratory Services. You will be expected to embrace changes to provide continuously improving patient care, as agreed to by your fellow clinicians and yourself as part of the annual review of your job plan.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Fully registered Medical Practitioner
- MRCP or equivalent
- Within 6 months of receiving CCST in Thoracic Medicine or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate thesis
- Post-graduate thesis Publications in peer reviewed journals
Training
Essential criteria
- As required by the Royal College of Physicians
- Formal Specialist Registrar training in Thoracic and Acute or General Medicine or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- 6 months post CCT training in long term ventilation and Sleep Medicine
Professional Interests & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience and interest in ILD
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both elective & emergency within the speciality
- Ability to take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Active & ongoing interest in research and audit
Management & Administration
