The Darzi Fellow - Clinical Lead for Leadership Fellows will contribute to the setting of strategic direction and development of clinical leadership fellows across NHSE in London. They will understand, promote and deliver the NHSE mandate and will espouse and enact the NHS values in their daily activity thus promoting the NHS constitution.

· To provide effective clinical leadership for agreed projects.
· To liaise and engage with the organisation and other sector colleagues as appropriate.
· Provide timely and effective clinical advice and leadership working with managers and staff.
· Providing written reports on progress, including risks and issues.
· To demonstrate strong principles of equality, inclusivity and diversity into all areas of work, with a focus on reducing health inequalities.
· To be an advocate and a positive role model on behalf of NHSE, by promoting leadership that inspires, motivates and empowers all staff, and demonstrates the values of the NHS.
· To provide a credible, onsite leadership presence in accordance with NHS England Hybrid Working Policy.
To work with system partners to:
· Establish strong working relationships to understand the strategic direction of the needs of the wider workforce, training and education team.
· Ensure appropriate deployment of NHS England resources aligned to Regional and National business plans and priorities.
· To engage with the 10 Year plan and Long-Term Workforce Plan for London.
The duties and responsibilities outlined above are not intended to be exhaustive, may vary over time and are subject to management review and amendment.
Working for our organisation
NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.
Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You can find further details about the role, including key responsibilities and accountabilities, alongside the organisational structure and person specification in the attached Job Description and other supporting documents.
Confidentiality: The post holder is required not to disclose such information, particularly relating to patients and staff. All employees are subject to the Data Protection Act 1998 and must not only maintain strict confidentiality in respect of patient and staff records, but the accuracy and integrity of the information contained within. The post holder must not at any time use personal data held by the organisation for any unauthorised purpose or disclosure such as data to a third party. Fellows must not make any disclosure to any unauthorised person or use any confidential information relating to the business affairs of the organisations, unless expressly authorised to do so by the organisation.
Health and safety: The post holder must co-operate with management in discharging responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and take reasonable care for his or her own health and safety, and that of others. The post holder must also ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe environment for patients, employees and visitors.
Equal opportunities: The post holder is required at all times to carry out responsibilities with due regard to the organisation's Equal opportunities Policy and to ensure that staff receive equal treatment throughout their employment with the organisation.
Risk management: All staff have a responsibility to report all clinical and non-clinical accidents or incidents promptly and when requested to, co-operate with any investigation undertaken.
Conflict of interests
· The post holder may not, without the consent of the organisation, engage in any outside employment and in accordance with the organisation’s Conflict of Interest Policy must declare to their manager all private interests, which could potentially result in personal gain as a consequence of the employment position in the organisation. Interests that might appear to be in conflict should also be declared. In addition the NHS Code of Conduct and Standards of Business conduct for NHS Staff (HSG 93/5) required the post holder to declare all situations where the Fellow or a close relative or associate has a controlling interest in a business (such as a private company, public organisation or other NHS voluntary organisation), or in any activity which may compete for any NHS contracts to supply goods or services to the organisation.
· The post holder must therefore register such interests with the organisation, either on appointment or subsequently whenever such interests are gained. Postholders should not engage in such interests without the written consent of the organisation, which will not be unreasonably withheld.
· It is the post holder’s responsibility to ensure that they are not placed in a position, which may give rise to a conflict between their private patient’s interest and their NHS duties.
