This is an exciting opportunity to join NHS Greater Manchester and play a key role in shaping safeguarding for children and young people across one of the largest integrated care systems in England.
As a strategic commissioning organisation, NHS GM is responsible for improving quality, safety and outcomes for its population, with safeguarding at the heart of its commissioning, assurance and quality improvement responsibilities.
The post holder will support the Associate Director of Safeguarding in ensuring NHS GM meets its statutory safeguarding duties and delivers effective safeguarding leadership across the system. Bringing significant safeguarding expertise and professional credibility, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with commissioners, providers, local authorities, safeguarding partnerships and wider system partners to strengthen safeguarding arrangements and improve outcomes for children and families.
As the Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children, the post holder will provide expert leadership, advice and assurance in line with statutory guidance and national best practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced safeguarding leader to influence policy, commissioning and practice at scale, helping to ensure that children and young people across GM are safeguarded and supported to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Provide designated expertise, support and advice into the safeguarding leadership team in overseeing delivery of the statutory safeguarding children functions and including statutory reviews.
· Present the findings of reviews to NHS GM and NHS England as well as other relevant partners ensuring recommendations are implemented.
Where necessary be the contact point for statutory partners (Local Authorities and the Police) Attend strategic meetings across the safeguarding partnership arrangements representing NHS GM and be the recognised as part of the system leadership for safeguarding.
Manage agreed local and system wide work areas, working with other designated and safeguarding professionals.
Support and advise colleagues in the clinical assessment and care of children, young people and adults at risk where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns, as part of own clinical role, while being clear about other’s personal clinical professional accountability.
Support and advise other professionals on the management of all forms of child maltreatment, including relevant legal frameworks and documentation.

The Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children will provide leadership and supervision within NHS GM and with local NHS commissioned services and outreach into the health economy to ensure services effectively safeguard our population.
The Designated Nurse will be responsible to ensure delivery of the designated function as set out in the appropriate statutory guidance, and all associated safeguarding functions. The Post Holder will form part of a wider extended management team and will carry responsibility to identify and escalate risks and provide safeguarding leadership in the management and response to risks identified.
The post holder will be supported in this role by the Associate Director of Safeguarding and the Assistant Directors of Safeguarding, Designated Doctors for Safeguarding Children, Named GP for Safeguarding, the Designated Nurse / Professional for Safeguarding Adults who collectively form the Safeguarding Team.

- UK NMC Registered Nurse: -Part 1 of the NMC register as a registered children’s nurse or -Part 3 as a specialist community public health nurse (having completed a specific programme with a child and family focus)
Qualifications

- Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area. Master’s degree or equivalent level of experience Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development at Masters level (level 7)
