Job overview
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has ambitious plans to transform healthcare in North Manchester through the North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) Redevelopment Programme that will deliver a new hospital and health campus at the existing North Manchester General Hospital site. This major investment will support the transformation of how we deliver our services and create modern facilities that support world-class clinical care for our communities.
This role provides a unique opportunity to be part of one of the largest public sector health transformation programmes being delivered across Manchester with the NMGH New Hospital Equipment Senior Project Manager being responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the planning, co-ordination and scoping of the procurement, installation and/or transfer of medical and non-medical equipment.

The NMGH New Hospital Equipment Senior Project Manager will provide strategic and delivery leadership assuming responsibility for the planning, co-ordination and scoping of the procurement, installation and/or transfer of medical and non-medical equipment (capital and revenue) for the Trust’s New Hospital Project. The role will lead the preparation, implementation and management of equipment planning, costing and procurement strategies to support the delivery and operationalisation of the new hospital facilities. The role will also be expected to work closely with the Project Finance & Business Case Lead to develop alternative financing solutions for the procurement and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post-Graduate level qualification to masters level in relevant discipline/or demonstration of relevant transferrable knowledge and experience
- Honours degree or demonstration of relevant transferable knowledge and experience e.g. in Clinical Engineering
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
- Management training (or equivalent relevant experience) including budget management, recruitment, appraisal, attendance management, health and safety etc
- Specialist medical equipment training.
Desirable criteria
- Programme / Project Management Qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APMP).
- Business Case Accreditation (or relevant training/ experience)
- Member of a relevant professional body, such as: IPEM, IHEEM.
- Engineering safety of medical equipment (IEC60601).
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Highly developed in-depth specialist knowledge of medical equipment management, procedures and practice
- In depth knowledge of medical engineering and other technologies associated with medical equipment, procedures and practice
- Understanding of electrical safety of medical equipment
- Knowledge of construction, workmanship standards and matters in relation to medical equipment planning, installation and commissioning.
- Good knowledge of documentation and asset management replacement/ lifecycle processes in connection with medical and non-medical equipment
- Knowledge of the Medical Device Regulations and the associated legal framework including indemnity.
- A good understanding of the dynamics of the NHS and the values of the UK Public Sector.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NHS Capital Business Case development / HM Treasury Green Book Guidance
- Knowledge and experience of benefits management
- Understanding of clinical and nonclinical hospital processes, hospital operations and clinical and non-clinical work flows.
- Understanding of technical design processes and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of current regulations and processes regarding major service change in the NHS.
- New Hospitals Programme and government objectives for the design of new hospitals
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in multidisciplinary Teams.
- Experience of managing projects (capital or non-capital and equipment related) and/or subprojects/ workstreams within larger programmes
- Extensive experience in medical equipment management and planning with additional specialist equipment training.
- Experience of staff management including performance, appraisal, grievance and disciplinary procedures
- Experience of monitoring and managing equipment budgets and delivering projects within budget.
- Experience of briefing and working and presenting to Board level Executives and other senior officers
- Strong experience and knowledge of working with database information and MS Office suite (MS Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Outlook) to high level of competence
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within/involved in the delivery of capital projects and the management and procurement of equipment
- Experience of using project planning software.
