Come and join us
We’re looking for people who share our values of compassion, accountability and optimism to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. We specialise in NHS mental health and learning disability services and we’re proud to make a difference every day.
At SPFT we put people first. We’ll do everything possible to help you feel respected, valued and included. You’ll have opportunities to learn, grow and gain new experiences to support your career, with access to lifelong learning and professional development.
We actively promote flexible working and understand how important work life balance is, especially in healthcare. Whether it’s part time hours, hybrid working or flexible start and finish times, we’ll explore what works for you and the role.
We recognise that tools like AI are becoming part of everyday life and you may choose to use them when preparing your application. We welcome this, as long as what you submit reflects your own experience, skills and voice. AI can be helpful for structuring or refining your answers, but it should not replace your own examples or create content that isn’t based on your real experience.
Our recruitment process is designed to get to know you, and we’ll explore your examples further at interview, so it’s important your application genuinely represents what you bring. You can read more about using AI in applications and interviews on our recruitment process page.
We’re shaping a workplace where ideas are encouraged, technology supports you and everyone has a voice in how we improve. If that sounds like the kind of organisation you want to be part of, we’d love to hear from you.

Over the next five years, community mental health services are going to be undergoing a real transformation and you could be part of these exciting developments. Our community mental health teams are becoming part of a much more integrated network of services and our mental health clinicians will be central in driving the changes, in close partnership with our primary and third sector colleagues.
We recognise that working in mental health can be stressful so we prioritise staff wellbeing, providing regular supervision, reflective practice, mentoring, and any other support that our clinicians need to ensure their wellbeing.
If you are a band 5 or newly qualified nurse with previous mental health experience who has a desire to develop into a community mental health nurse role, then please contact us as we would be delighted to talk with you about any development opportunities.
We encourage flexible working. We know that a positive work/ life balance brings about huge health-related benefits, which has a positive impact on the care we provide. Please speak to us about flexible working, for example, home-working, part time hours, flexible start/ finish times or anything else. If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen.

This role is focused on improving outcomes for people living with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. You will work collaboratively with service users, their families, and carers to co-produce personalised care and risk management plans that promote recovery, enhance wellbeing, and support individuals to live as independently as possible.
Success in this role relies on building and maintaining effective partnerships with a wide range of services, including GPs, Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams, housing providers, social care, and voluntary and community sector organisations. You will take a proactive and creative approach to ensuring people receive the right care, at the right time, from the most appropriate service. Where required, you will facilitate access to specialist services, including Early Intervention in Psychosis and Eating Disorder Services.
As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, you will:
- Undertake comprehensive assessments and contribute to the development, implementation, and review of recovery-focused care plans.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary discussions, formulation, risk management, and care planning.
- Manage a caseload and work collaboratively with service users, families, and carers to achieve positive outcomes.
- Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of evidence-based practice.
- Participate in regular clinical, professional, and managerial supervision.
- Maintain high standards of professional practice, working in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards, and ethical frameworks.
- Support individuals to access local health, social care, and community resources that promote recovery and inclusion.
- Ensure accurate and timely record keeping in line with Trust standards, national guidance, and NICE recommendations.
What we offer
We are committed to supporting your professional development and wellbeing through:
- Regular management, clinical, and professional supervision.
- Access to a wide range of training, learning, and continuing professional development opportunities.
- A supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team environment.
- Opportunities to contribute to service innovation, quality improvement, and the ongoing transformation of community mental health services.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and motivated practitioner with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong clinical knowledge, and a commitment to delivering high-quality care in the community. You will be flexible, resilient, and committed to recovery-focused, person-centred care, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
SPFT is committed to building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and from disabled candidates, as these groups are currently underrepresented.
Successful candidates are normally appointed to the bottom of the pay scale unless previous NHS experience in a similar role can be evidenced.
SPFT takes its responsibilities for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk very seriously. We expect all staff and bank workers to share this commitment and complete the relevant safeguarding training for their role.
If you have not heard from us within three weeks of the closing date, please assume your application has been unsuccessful. However, we’ll always do our best to keep you informed as we know how much time and care goes into applying for a role.
In the event of a high number of applications, we may close this vacancy early.
