Job overview
Are you an experienced senior midwifery leader with a passion for improving quality, safety and outcomes for women, babies and families?
We are seeking two exceptional Senior Clinical Quality Managers to join the Regional Nursing and Quality Team within the North East and Yorkshire Region. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered midwife to influence quality improvement at a strategic level and contribute to the delivery of safer, more equitable maternity and neonatal services across the region.
Working alongside the Regional Chief Midwife and Deputy Regional Chief Midwife, you will play a key role in delivering the regional perinatal quality portfolio, providing expert leadership, assurance and support to providers and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs). You will help identify emerging quality risks, support challenged organisations, oversee improvement activity and ensure that women, babies and families receive high-quality, safe care.

What you'll be doing
- Leading quality surveillance and assurance activities across maternity and perinatal services.
- Supporting quality improvement programmes and targeted interventions within providers and ICBs.
- Identifying early indicators of quality concerns and supporting organisations to implement sustainable improvement plans.
- Analysing and interpreting complex quality data and intelligence to inform decision-making.
- Preparing strategic briefings and reports for senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Working collaboratively across NHS England, Integrated Care Systems, providers and wider partners.
- Deputising for the Regional Chief Midwife or Deputy Regional Chief Midwife when required.
Working for our organisation
NHS England has a wide range of statutory functions, responsibilities and regulatory powers. These are focused on supporting the wider NHS to deliver high quality care, as well as doing those things that are best done once for the whole NHS.
Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms — enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.
In March 2025, the Government announced that NHS England and the Department of Health and Social Care will increasingly merge functions, ultimately leading to NHS England being fully integrated into the department.
If you currently work within the NHS and if successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.
Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in our offices.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
We cannot offer visa sponsorship for any vacancies.
