Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Camden COPD & Home Oxygen Service as a Band 7 Physiotherapist or Nurse. We are seeking an enthusiastic clinician with experience in respiratory care gained within acute, sub-acute or community settings.
The Camden COPD & Home Oxygen Service is a community-based multidisciplinary team providing specialist respiratory care across a range of pathways, including home oxygen assessment and review, domiciliary COPD management, COPD clinics, pulmonary rehabilitation and community outreach services. The service aims to improve quality of life for people living with chronic respiratory disease, promote safe and effective oxygen use, support self-management, and reduce avoidable hospital admissions through integrated, person-centred care.
The successful candidate will work primarily within the Home Oxygen Service Assessment and Review (HOSAR) pathway, delivering specialist oxygen assessments, reviews and ongoing management for patients with complex respiratory conditions. The role also includes contributing to the wider respiratory service in line with patient demand and service priorities. Education, training and support of patients, carers and healthcare professionals form an important part of the role.
Advert
The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of the Home Oxygen Service Assessment and Review (HOSAR) pathway, providing specialist assessment, review and management of patients receiving home oxygen therapy. The caseload includes patients with COPD as well as follow-up reviews for patients prescribed oxygen for other conditions, including ILD, paediatric conditions, cluster headaches and palliative care indications. Responsibilities include undertaking oxygen assessments and reviews in clinic and domiciliary settings, performing capillary blood gas sampling and ambulatory oxygen assessments, supporting safe and evidence-based oxygen prescribing, and contributing to service development, quality improvement and stakeholder engagement.
Whilst the majority of clinical time will be spent within the home oxygen pathway, the service works flexibly and all clinicians are expected to develop competencies across the wider respiratory service to support service resilience and meet patient need. Opportunities will therefore exist to contribute to pulmonary rehabilitation, spirometry, domiciliary COPD management, COPD clinics and community outreach services.
Applicants should have a broad understanding of respiratory disease, particularly COPD, and experience managing patients with complex respiratory needs. Experience in pulmonary rehabilitation, spirometry or home oxygen assessment is desirable but not essential, as training and support will be provided.
Working for our organisation
The team comprises Respiratory Nurses, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Assistants, an Administrator and Respiratory Consultants. There is a strong culture of integrated working between community and secondary care, supported through close collaboration, weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, joint training opportunities and regular clinical support from Respiratory Consultants at the Royal Free Hospital and UCLH.
CNWL provides NHS services across physical health, mental health and community care, delivering high-quality care in hospitals, clinics and people's homes. As a community-based team, we are committed to delivering care closer to home through integrated, coordinated and patient-centred services.
Our team's culture is strongly shaped by the CNWL values and the SCARF principles (Safe, Compassionate, Accountable, Reflective and Fair), which underpin how we work together, support one another and deliver care. We are proud of our humanistic approach and strive to create a compassionate, psychologically safe environment where staff feel valued, respected and empowered to contribute. Kindness, curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning are central to our way of working, and we actively encourage open dialogue, reflection and feedback. We are committed to supporting professional growth and development, with staff encouraged to share knowledge, build expertise and view challenges as opportunities for learning, innovation and service improvement.
