Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Band 7
We want to support children with autism as part of our new diagnostic neurodevelopmental pathway. You will work in our speech and language therapy team alongside colleagues from SLT, occupational therapy, clinical psychology and community paediatrics to contribute to the diagnosis and to provide the intervention and support to families through direct therapy, training and work with education settings.
Our service is part of the Integrated community children's services, including Speech and Language Therapists, Paediatricians, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapies, specialist health visitors and nurses. We have a strong focus on multi agency working across health and education.
This post is eligible for the Trust 'Welcome to NELFT' payment, a lump sum of 10% of agreed basic salary excluding HCAS and is open to all new applicants who are successfully appointed. Payment of the incentive is 50% of the lump sum at the end of the probationary period (typically six months) and then 50% at the end of year two. This welcome package is applicable to external candidates only.

You will use your specialist skills to redevelop and provide a high standard of speech and language therapy for children with autistic spectrum conditions across the Basildon, Brentwood and Thurrock area as part of a small team of specialists and alongside the community SLT teams.
We offer:-

Integrated children’s therapies and professional team meetings to maintain communication and learning opportunities with speech and language, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

You will need to demonstrate the following requirements for the post:
- Post registration experience in delivering appropriate highly specialist intervention/care plans/enhanced models of SLT for clients with speech language and communication needs, and provide suitable and timely support
- Clear clinical reasoning based on evidence based practice within paediatrics, with specific experience in specialist interventions working with children with ASD
- The ability to provide feedback, advice and training internally within the profession and externally to other staff groups as well as clients' families.
- Responsibility in taking a delegated lead on the development of team objectives or projects in liaison with the clinical service lead and peers
Experience in using the ADOS or other assessments as part of multidisciplinary diagnosis is desirable
