The Paediatric Allergy service at King’s College Hospital is a busy outpatient based service with over 2,000 patients seen per year and 600 referrals, from primary care and secondary care from across SE London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
There are 4 MDT allergy clinics per week seeing a mix of patients including those with food allergy, allergy rhinitis, chronic urticaria, asthma, eczema, and drug allergy. We have a small number of patients undergoing treatment for hereditary angioedema (HAE). There are also 2 nurse led clinics, providing follow-up for patients on sublingual immunotherapy and those undergoing supported home introduction of allergenic food. Day Case Investigations (food challenges and drug provocation tests) are performed on the Philip Isaacs Day Ward. Allergy patients also attend for initiation of sublingual immunotherapy, subcutaneous immunotherapy, Palforzia peanut immunotherapy and to receive Omalizumab injections for chronic idiopathic urticaria. The immunology laboratory is on site.
We have a weekly MDT meeting to co-ordinate clinical care within the service. There is a monthly MDT meeting held jointly with the paediatric dermatologists to discuss complex dermatology patients and children being treated with Omalizumab and Dupilimab. A monthly MDT meeting is held jointly with the adult allergy service to discuss transition and the management of patients with HAE.
