The HRA is a Non Departmental Public Body with the remit to protect and promote the interests of patients and the public in health and social care research. We do this by supporting and promoting a robust and efficient regulatory and governance framework in the UK. We provide the Research Ethics Service (RES), Confidentiality Advice function, assessments and assurances on behalf of the NHS, and learning, guidance and advice for the research community. Our ambition is to make the UK a great place to do research, where more money invested in research goes into carrying out relevant, good quality research.
Our purpose is to ensure that research involving NHS patients and members of the public is approved through a proportionate and robust system, that they are provided with the information they need to help them decide whether they wish to take part, and that their opportunity to do so is maximised by simplifying the processes by which high quality research is assessed. We have already delivered significant improvements by centralising and simplifying the approval of research in the NHS in England, and are undertaking a range of significant programmes to deliver further improvements.
Job overview
The Information Governance Support Manager will play a key role in the management of Information Governance (IG) related matters with considerable freedom to act within the parameters of defined policies and legislation. The post holder will have expert / specialist knowledge in the areas of IG and an understanding of the research environment in the UK.
The post holder will work with the Information Governance and Complaints Manager to improve and develop the service provided by the IG and Complaints team to complainants and members of the public in line with the HRA’s strategic objectives.
Advert
The post holder will be responsible for leading on responses to Freedom of Information Act requests, subject access requests and other IG related matters as required. This will involve communicating verbally and through written format with members of the public, research participants, members of the research team and sponsors regarding queries and concerns, which may frequently be of a sensitive, confidential, personal and potentially highly complex nature.
The individual will also support the Information Governance and Complaints Manager in ensuring the wider work of the IG & Complaints team, notably complaints and third party complaints are managed in a timely manner and in accordance with HRA policies and procedures and legal frameworks.
The post holder will support the introduction, review and maintenance of new processes and systems (databases / workflows etc) which recognise the need to learn from enquiries, as well as seeking effective remedies for those who have raised a query.
